BUYER'S GUIDE

Choosing a gold bar: 20, 50, 100 or 250 g

There is no single right weight for every order. Consider the total amount, the number of separate pieces and the planned handover. One larger bar and several smaller bars can have the same combined weight but different prices and different ways of dividing the pieces.

One piece or several separate bars?

For 100 g, compare one 100 g bar, two 50 g bars or five 20 g bars. Each option totals 100 g in nominal weight, but gives you one, two or five separate pieces. If you want to hand individual pieces to different people or divide them between orders, say so in your enquiry.

These examples compare weight only. Availability, manufacturer and the price of a specific combination are confirmed in the offer. They do not promise future buyback or guaranteed resale.

Compare the whole combination's price

Add the prices of all pieces and related charges. Divide the total by the fine-metal weight. With the same fineness and delivery terms, this gives you a comparable price per gram. For example, compare two 100 g offers as complete orders, rather than comparing the ticket price of one 50 g piece with one 100 g piece.

According to the World Gold Council, larger pieces generally carry lower premiums than smaller ones. Check the actual difference in the current offer; weight or a photograph alone cannot tell you the price.

How to send a precise enquiry

State the total weight, number of pieces and preferred delivery date. To compare 100 g, you could write: ‘Please quote 1 × 100 g and alternatively 2 × 50 g with the same fineness and delivery date, including all charges and documentation.’ This gives the manager specific alternatives to compare rather than a general question about the gold price.

Before sending an enquiry

  • Am I comparing the same fineness and total weight?
  • Does the price include all pieces and related charges?
  • Are the manufacturer, documentation and delivery date confirmed?
